I teach Rishi-Culture Ashtanga Yoga as taught in India. My classes are held in Deganwy, Conwy.
The classes are taught in ten-week blocks, this way, you will receive a deeper understanding of yoga and you will be able to build your own personal practice, step-by-step, and with correct guidance. Classes are limited to ten spaces and the group practises together on a weekly basis, building the energy of the group, week-by-week.
Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga is a teaching that has a very distinguished lineage and it is a teaching that has been handed down from Guru to Chela (Student) for centuries.
The Teaching offers a step by step approach to developing an authentic Yoga practice (Sadhana), following the steps as laid down by Maharishi Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. A moral and ethical foundation is nurtured through the Yama and Niyama; Asanas (Body Postures); Kriyas (Systematic Movements); Pranayamas (Breath energy Controls); Mudras (Gestures); Relaxation and Visualisation techniques (Jnana and Raja Yoga).
Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri is truly one of the most significant Yogis of our times and played an important role in the revival of the traditional teachings of classical Yoga in modern times.
Known as the ‘Father of Scientific Yoga’ he combined his scientific background with the ancient techniques of classical Yoga that he studied in his youth with his Master, the Bengali saint Yogamaharishi Swami Kanakananda Brighu.
The result is what Swami Gitananda called “Rishi Culture Ashtanga Yoga” and is now known worldwide as “Gitananda Yoga”.
The beauty of Gitananda Yoga lies in its step-by-step approach towards Yoga that is also beautifully outlined in the correspondence course “Yoga: Step-by-Step”.
Based on the moral and ethical values (Yama and Niyama) as codified by Maharishi Patanjali, Dr.Swami Gitananda Giri taught:
Asanas (Body postures)
Kriyas (Systematic movements)
Pranayamas (Breath-energy controls)
Mudras (Gestures of energy)
Jnana and Raja Yoga Prakriyas (Visualization, relaxation, polarity techniques )
Laya Yoga (Techniques of energy sublimation)
Taken to their full potential the values and techniques Swami Gitananda taught can lead the student to the experience of Yoga (unity).
